Cognitive in-vehicle Systems

We develop multimodal interaction modules for in-vehicle systems. These modules allow the driver and the passengers interact verbally and non-verbally with the vehicle. We also develop cognitive modules for driver behavior recognition and prediction to detect different classes of driver distraction (classes: visual, auditory, biomechanical and cognitive distraction) that may lead to driving risks and to detect driver fatigue that causes reduced vigilance or slow reaction to traffic situations. Unlike driver behavior recognition, the driver behavior prediction focuses on anticipating the possible behavior before it happens, thereby early prediction gives the driver or the assistance system more time to prepare for the coming events. These modules are designed to detect and preempt potentially dangerous driving situations while actively support the driver to avoid accidents.
